Edgewood ISD is celebrating 36 outstanding educators who have earned recognition and rewards close to $500,000 by the Texas Education Agency.

Superintendent Dr. Eduardo Hernandez, Deputy Superintendent Phillip Chavez, members of the EISD school board and district’s leadership team surprised the teachers to let them know they have earned TEA designations and stipends through the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA).

TIA has three levels of distinctions: Recognized, Exemplary and Master. Edgewood ISD is proud to have 15 Recognized teachers, including one who is certified by the National Board of Education, 18 Exemplary teachers and three Master teachers.  All three Master teachers currently teach at Roosevelt Dual Language Academy.

“These recognitions are a testament to how hard our teachers work,” says Superintendent Dr. Eduardo Hernandez. “Their dedication to students and to Edgewood drives our district to provide the best future possible for each child. I am proud of the work they do and am glad to see the TEA take notice."

In addition to their recognition, teachers will receive a stipend from the TEA for five years. The state has not announced the incentive amounts for this year’s TIA recipients, but will contact teachers later in the year.

“Edgewood ISD is proud of these teachers and the exceptional job they are doing for our students. We know they will continue to work hard and hopefully inspire others to achieve TIA designations,” says Deputy Superintendent Chavez.

The TIA creates a pathway for highly effective teachers to earn six-figure salaries while making it possible for districts like Edgewood ISD to retain and recruit exceptional educators. To learn more about the TIA click HERE.

Qualifying for the Teacher Incentive Allotment program is a multi-year application process. This is the first year EISD received full approval.
