Winston Intermediate School of Excellence invited female leaders from the community to speak to their students in honor of International Day of the Girl.
Las Palmas Leadership School for Girls was also invited to be a part of this inspirational event.
Scholars heard from Texas A&M University-San Antonio President Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson about the power and strength young girls have on their future.
"You can be anything you want with hard work," said President Matson. "You can be an engineer, in the military, or a scientist."
Athletes from the university dance, soccer, softball and volleyball teams also sang praise of how far we've all come in this challenging year and reminded them not to give up when things get difficult.
"You have to remember that things might not always be easy but you will get through it. There's always sunshine after the storm."
International Day of the Girl focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote their empowerment and is celebrated annually on October 11.
