Miguel Mendoza, an EISD fifth grade student, spent his Saturday at Traders Village asking for donations to benefit a special cause. His campus, Lyndon B. Johnson Elementary, is holding a school-wide fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and students are tasked to raise as much money as possible. Miguel decided to go above and beyond.
"I decided to go to Trader's Village because there's always a lot of people there. I met with a worker and he invited me on the stage," said Miguel. "When everyone heard what I was doing, they all started clapping. The band even donated their tip jar money!"
Miguel says he began early in the morning hours and didn't leave until 6 pm. His passion to help is driven by his little cousin, who is nine years old battling cancer.
"My cousin has cancer so I did it for her. I feel happy to help save lives and help out by raising money. It's the least I can do."
Miguel will be raising money until Friday, January 31. Great job Miguel!
