The Edgewood Education Foundation is showing its commitment to supporting teachers. This week the Foundation’s “Prize Patrol” awarded more than 20 grants to educators across the district.

Superintendent Dr. Eduardo Hernandez joined members of the Foundation to surprise teachers with grants ranging from $300 to$1000.  Michael Borroel, the orchestra teacher at the Edgewood Fine Arts Academy, told his students he is looking forward to using the money to give them more opportunities. At Las Palmas Leadership School for Girls, the Foundation awarded IB Coordinator Genevie Rodriguez a grant for a “Dinner Theater,” while at Roosevelt Dual Language Academy Leticia Barbosa plans to use her grant to create a 3rd Grade Parent Academy.  A grant awarded to Ivon Orizaga at Memorial High School will be used for hands-only CPR training.

Other projects range from sensory learning to outdoor play activities, to mathematics and helping students prepare for college.
