The Edgewood ISD Class of 2023 graduates who are headed to college may be doing so without the worry of how to pay for college classes. In total, the Class of 2023 earned $11,058,100 in college scholarships.   

Earning such a great amount is a remarkable accomplishment, but even more outstanding when put into context. As one of the smallest school districts in Bexar County, Edgewood ISD’s Class of 2023 is made up of fewer than 500 students. Students at Memorial High School earned $4,376,392, Kennedy High School students earned $4,301,875 and the graduates of Edgewood Fine Arts Academy earned $2,379,833.

Jubilee Pena earned the most of any EISD graduate. The Kennedy High School grad earned $700,440. She’ll be attending Our Lady of the Lake University in the Fall. With more than $370,000 in scholarships, Memorial High School graduate Penelope Medellin The highest scholarship earner from Memorial High School will attend Texas A&M University in the fall. Joining her in the Aggie Class of 2027 is Edgewood Fine Arts Academy Valedictorian Andrea Palomeque Saldivar. She earned $270,000 in scholarships, which she will use as she pursues a degree in computer science.

Edgewood ISD School Board President Martha Castilla celebrated the Class of 2023 and encouraged them to never forget where they came from.

“We are a family. I urge all of you graduates, once you become doctors, lawyers, engineers, don’t forget Edgewood. That is what’s been our strength all these years.” said Castilla.  “I know what we have in [Edgewood] and that’s why we are Edgewood Proud.”
