Leslie Soria is one step closer to bringing more science into her classroom at Cardenas Early Childhood Center. Soria teaches 3 & 4 year-old students who she says are always curious and eager for hands-on learning.
“The science center in my classroom is always a busy place,” says Soria.
It will soon be busier, thanks to a $1,000 education grant from the Firstmark Foundation. The money will help her add new science tools, books and building materials. Her hope is to enhance sensory learning and help students develop an appreciation for the environment.
“I plan to use some of the money to integrate more bilingual materials into my classroom for my bilingual students,” says Soria. “Things like books, manipulatives and more STEM.”
She would also like to incorporate plants and other living things into her classroom, to teach her students how all things are connected.
Soria is one of 20 teachers in the San Antonio-area to receive the grant from Firstmark Foundation grant for the 2023-24 school year. The grant is funded by members of the Firstmark Credit Union.
