Food, dancing, laughter and celebration as Winston Intermediate School of Excellence unveiled a beautiful new mural on campus. Principal Ana Cantu hopes it will be much more than something for students and the community to admire.

“I aspire for this mural to instill cultural pride and family connection in both current and upcoming students,” says Cantu. “I aim for students to experience a deep sense of honor and belonging within our school community.”

During an unveiling party on Friday, October 6, the WISE community celebrated the mural and the artists who created it. Maria and Manola Ramirez, who are artists and sisters, brought the mural from dream to reality. Timothy Cortez, a WISE student, cut the ribbon to officially make it a part of the WISE campus.

“This mural serves as a symbolic representation of the [heart of the] WISE neighborhood, helping to distinguish the community building,’ says Cantu. “This facility is dedicated to accommodating organizations that provide support to our families.”

Principal Cantu is also thankful for all the people who came out for the unveiling party. She says it’s a sign of the support and strength of the WISE and Edgewood community.

“{Their} presence signifies our responsiveness to the needs of our families and indicates their belief in our dedication to the initiatives we initiated five years ago,” says Cantu.
