Edgewood ISD is proud to partner with colleges, universities, and Teacher Preparation Programs to offer meaningful student teaching and observation placements throughout our district. We see every partnership as an investment in the future of our classrooms and a vital part of our talent pipeline. Many of our most outstanding educators began their careers as student teachers right here in Edgewood ISD, and we actively seek to recruit and hire successful candidates into full-time teaching positions once their placement is complete.

Criminal History Clearance

• The safety of our students comes first. Edgewood ISD conducts a criminal history background check for every individual seeking a classroom observation or student teaching placement in the district. Completing this step early ensures a smooth and timely start to your placement, as all observers and student teachers must receive clearance before reporting to any campus.

  • Complete the brief online application to begin your background check.

  •  Locate your Volunteer ID# in the top-left corner of the volunteer application screen — you will need this number when completing your placement request.

Request Placement

• To begin the placement process, individuals are required to fill out a request form. The form gathers information necessary for the proper placement of pre-clinical observers, traditional student teachers, and year-long residency teachers.

Placement Process

• After your background check has been successfully cleared, our Director of Talent Pipelines and Employee Relations will work closely with district principals to identify the placement that best matches your goals and area of study. Once a placement is finalized, we will notify your college, university, or Teacher Preparation Program directly. From there, you will complete any remaining documentation and be ready to begin an inspiring hands-on experience in an Edgewood ISD classroom.
