Student Teacher & Observation

Edgewood ISD welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with colleges, universities, and Teacher Preparation Programs to provide high‑quality student teaching and observation placements within the district. We value these partnerships as a critical component of our talent pipeline and actively seek to recruit and hire successful student teachers into full‑time teaching positions with Edgewood ISD.

Classroom Observations and Student Teaching Placement Steps:

  • Request Placement

To begin the placement process, individuals are required to fill out a request form. The form gathers information necessary for the proper placement of pre-clinical observers, traditional student teachers, and year-long residency teachers.

The request form may be accessed through this link: Placement Request Form

  • Criminal History Clearance

Edgewood ISD conducts criminal history background checks for all individuals seeking classroom observations or student teaching placements within the district. This process requires completion of a brief online application, which collects the information necessary to conduct the background check. All classroom observers and student teachers must receive clearance prior to reporting to any campus.

Visit the Volunteer Homepage to complete the application for the background check.

  • Placement Process

Once the background check has been successfully cleared, the Director of Talent Pipelines and Employee Relations will collaborate with district principals to determine appropriate student teacher placements. Upon finalizing placements, the respective college, university, or Teacher Preparation Program will be notified. The assigned student teacher may then proceed with completing any remaining required documentation.
