In a bold move to deepen community engagement and empower families, Edgewood ISD has launched the Unified Voices Council (UVC)—a dynamic new initiative that gives parents and community members a meaningful role in shaping district priorities.
“The idea for UVC began taking shape in January 2025, born from Edgewood ISD’s commitment to student success and inclusive decision-making,” said Joe Hinojosa, EISD Senior Director of Educational Operations. “This council is a direct extension of EISD’s values and mission, ensuring that family and community voices are truly heard.”
Unlike traditional parent-teacher groups, the UVC is action-oriented. Built on the “SEAT” model—Share, Engage, Act, and Talk—the council promotes meaningful participation that drives real impact in schools and for students. Members don’t just meet to discuss issues; they receive advocacy training and legislative preparation, equipping them to influence education policy at the district, local, and state levels.
EISD is preparing UVC members to participate in Capitol conversations, testify before lawmakers, and advocate for students during the upcoming 90th Texas Legislative Session in 2027.
By uniting parents and district staff, the UVC supports EISD’s top goal: to graduate all scholars college, career, or military ready by their expected graduation date.
“This council will play a vital role in building advocacy skills among our families and stakeholders,” Hinojosa added. “It will empower them to speak confidently on behalf of our students and engage in conversations that can shape education policy for all Texas students.”
