Intersession

Important Dates to Know

Intersession Week is January 4-8, 2021.

When is Winter Break?

According to the 2020-2021 Academic Calendar, winter break is December 21, 2020 through January 1, 2021. There will be no school during these two weeks as all campuses and district offices will be closed.

When and what is intersession week?

Intersession is a brief break throughout the school year intended for extra academic support for select students and a way to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Intersession week will begin on Monday, January 4, through Friday, January 8, 2021.

When do students return to school?

Students will return to their regular school day, virtually or in-person, on Monday, January 11, 2021. However, students who are needing additional support or need to submit supplemental assignments will work virtually during the intersession week, January 4-8, 2021. Teachers have already contacted these students who are needing additional support.

When do campuses re-open?

Campuses will be closed during winter break and intersession week (Dec. 21, 2020-Jan. 8, 2021) and will re-open on Monday, January 11, 2021. District offices will resume normal business hours on Monday, January 4, 2021 from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

**Buildings will be sanitized to ensure safe learning environments for students and staff upon returning.

What is Intersession?
Our school year calendar includes Intersession weeks.  These take place in the fall, spring, and summer to support and improve the academic achievement of all students. Students will receive individualized instruction tailored to their specific needs.

What is Intersession?

Intersessions are brief breaks throughout the school year for extra academic support. Intersessions are strategically scheduled to provide intervention, enrichment, and accelerations following a grading cycle, rather than delaying these experiences until the summer.  During these weeks, not all students will be required to attend.

Intersessions will:

* help address the "summer slide", or the decline in student performance that typically happens during long breaks

* manage the anticipated long-term impact of COVID-19

* provide intervention, enrichment and acceleration opportunities

* be built into the school year to provide timely student support and give extra flexibility to respond to student needs

* provide more immediate recovery opportunities to reduce knowledge gaps
