School Safety & Security Committee
According to Texas Education Code section 37.109, which was amended substantially in 2019 by Senate Bill 11, each school district must establish a school safety and security committee. Updated policies related to the committee are included in TASB Policy Service’s Update 114 to the Policy Reference Manual. By law, the committee must operate in accordance with guidelines from the Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC).

Agendas and Presentations
Agendas are posted at least 72 hours prior to each meeting. Citizens may attend SSSC meetings and may address the committee during the public forum which is included at all SSSC meetings. Concerns and complaints regarding specific individuals should not be raised in public forum; they must be considered separately according to applicable board polices. Each participant will be limited to three minutes to make comments to the SSSC. Any group of five or more persons must appoint one person to present the group’s views to the SSSC. The Committee is not permitted to discuss or act upon any issues that are not posted on the agenda at the meeting. The SSSC will follow District complaint policies that are designed to secure, at the lowest possible administrative level, a prompt and equitable resolution of complaints and concerns. Each of these processes provides that, if a resolution cannot be achieved administratively, the person may appeal the administrative decision to the Board as a properly posted on the agenda item.
