Advanced Academics

Edgewood ISD Advanced Academics is more than “harder classes." It’s a pathway designed to stretch curious, motivated students and prepare them for college and beyond. These programs offer deeper content, faster pacing, and opportunities to think critically, solve real-world problems, and explore interests at a higher level.

In EISD, families will see several options under the Advanced Academics umbrella, each serving a slightly different purpose:

  • Gifted and Talented (GT) services support students who need enrichment and differentiated instruction starting in earlier grades.

  • Advanced Placement (AP) courses deliver college-level rigor in high school, with the chance to earn credit through end-of-year exams.

  • Dual Credit courses allow students to earn both high school and college credit simultaneously—often saving time and tuition later.

Families often wonder: Is my student ready? Will this be too much? What’s the long-term payoff?
The answer depends on the student, but in general, these programs are designed with support structures to help students succeed, not just to challenge them. When a student is engaged and appropriately challenged, they tend to build confidence, resilience, and a stronger academic foundation.

In Edgewood, Advanced Academics isn’t about labeling students. it’s about offering options so every learner can grow at the pace and depth that’s right for them.
