Robert J. Lopez

Robert grew up in San Antonio and received his bachelor’s degree from Bethel College in Kansas. He attended on a football scholarship he earned in high school. Lopez has taught at Truman Elementary, Wrenn Middle School and is now continuing his career at Edgewood ISD’s Alternative Education Program at Emma Frey.  Teaching is his gift and he finds a special connection from his background to give back to the students.  “I had opportunities provided for me through my education and athletics, and I want to do my part to ensure my students have the same chances.” He is very humbled for his continued experience as an educator in Edgewood. He says it’s a great place to teach because it feels like a family environment. “Even though we are in a big city, this school district has a small-town feel, and it’s an environment I thrive in.” As for being nominated Teacher of the Year, Lopez says it feels very humbling. “We have a magnificent staff at AEP and they really care about the students. It's an honor to work alongside employees that share the same perception and dedication.”

Join us in congratulating Robert, the 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year for DAEP!
