Welcome to Geometry and Advance Quantitative Reasoning classes at Memorial High School! I am excited to be your mathematics teacher this school year! My main goal for these classes is to prepare students to be successful in higher education or gain adequate knowledge to pursue competitive careers after graduation. During the academic year students will use mathematical processes to acquire and demonstrate mathematical understanding. Students are expected to apply mathematics to problems arising in everyday life, society, and the workplace. We will use problem-solving models that incorporate analyzing given information, formulating a plan or strategy, determining a solution, justifying the solution, and evaluating the problem-solving process and the reasonableness of the solution. In addition, students will utilize various resources including technology, mental math, estimation, and number sense to solve problems. Students will communicate mathematical ideas, reasoning, and their implications using multiple visual models, including symbols, diagrams, graphs, and language as appropriate. Furthermore, students will develop applied reasoning, planning, and communication skills to make decisions to solve problems in applied mathematical situations involving numerical reasoning, probability, statistical analysis, finance, mathematical selection, and modeling using algebraic, geometric, trigonometric and discrete mathematics skills. During the process of learning these mathematical concepts, I will be supportive and an invaluable tool for all students to maximize their success in my classes. Please see the class syllabus to get acquainted with the logistics and expectations of the class. I wish you all a fantastic school year 2018-2019!
