The VI team provides services to all students, ages 0-21, living in our district, with visual impairments and blindness. Services include teaching braille, Nemeth code, Orientation and Mobility, and other areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum. We have the privilege to work with Easter Seals to provide services to babies in their homes. We strive to stay current with the latest technology and work with Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired and Region 20 to ensure that our students have the equipment that is needed for success in the classrooms.
The VI department also includes Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist, Aisha Edwards, a graduate of SFA, who is completing her masters in special ed through SFA this year.
We welcome Jaylon Garza, graduate of UTSA, who is working on his masters in Special Ed through TTU and has been hired as our braillist!
The VI team partners with community organizations such as Computers for the Blind and Sight Savers to bring needed technology into the homes of our students. Our team has been the recipients of grants and monetary awards that have allowed our families to build and strengthen community relationships through activities at Build-A-Bear and Morgan’s Wonderland.
It is our privilege to work with and serve the children of Edgewood ISD.
