Dear Edgewood ISD Community,

The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged us to work and study in an entirely new capacity and I am so proud of how our Edgewood ISD students and staff have adjusted to what has become a new normal for everyone. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the safety, health and well-being or our students and staff has been a top priority for me and I will continue to follow the guidelines of our health authorities as well as local and state officials in making decisions for our district.

On that premise, and based on the recommendations from our Governor, Edgewood ISD will extend its closure for the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic school year. I want to be very clear; this announcement does not mean learning has ended; students will finish the year learning in a different capacity given the current health environment. While distance learning will remain in place, I do want to remind you that our last day of school is May 22, 2020. Please be aware that we are continuously receiving information from our local and state authorities, which means more updates will be shared in the coming weeks especially having to do with high school graduations, summer learning and the academic calendar for next year.

I do want to remind our community that essential services for our students that will continue include meals with distributions taking place on Tuesdays from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm at twelve (12) locations throughout our district: Gardendale, Henry B. Gonzalez, Las Palmas, L.B. Johnson, Perales, Roosevelt, Winston, Gus Garcia, E.T. Wrenn, Fine Arts Academy, and Memorial High School.

Thank you, Edgewood ISD, for your continued patience and trust as we move forward with planning and preparing while making decisions that are in everyone’s best interest. I ask that, as we continue to navigate during this unprecedented period of our lives, we support our students, our vulnerable populations, and our community.

As always, it is an honor and a privilege to be your superintendent. Thank you for your continued trust and support of the Edgewood Independent School District.

Sincerely,
Dr. Eduardo Hernandez

Edgewood ISD - Superintendent of Schools
