Education Foundation Surprises Grant Winners

This is the image for the news article titled Education Foundation Surprises Grant Winners The Edgewood ISD Education Foundation recently presented grants totaling over $9,000 to 10 teachers as a result of their Innovative Teaching Grant awards. Grant winners were pleasantly surprised by the foundation’s Prize Patrol, which consisted of Education Foundation members, Superintendent Dr. Hernandez and the John F. Kennedy High School cheer squad and drum line.   

“I was so surprised. I had no idea I had won,” said Miriam Martinez, Roosevelt Elementary teacher. “Thank you so much. This is truly amazing!” exclaimed Valerie Cervantes, Brentwood STEAM School of Innovation teacher.  

Winning projects are designed to enhance the student learning experience in the classroom and beyond. These projects include hydroponic gardening, math leagues, and entrepreneurship opportunities.  

A complete list of the Innovative Teaching Grant winners are as follows:  

Brentwood Middle School – Project: Blending Urban Gardening. Recipients: Javier Uribe and Valerie Cervantes  
Perales Elementary – Project: Math League Scholars. Recipients: Monica Briones and Kirissa Kabanek  
Burleson Center for Innovation and Education – Project: Hydroponic Gardening System.  Recipient: Sarah Minner  
Roosevelt Elementary – Project: Integrating Technology Art. Recipients: Miriam Martinez  
Stafford Elementary – Project: Aquarist. Recipients: Oscar Galdeaño  
Wrenn Middle School – Project: Entrepreneurship in Action. Recipients: Megan Prado  
Memorial High School – Project: Graphic Non-Fiction for Learning; Scrabble Word Games. Recipients: Catherine Bernstein
