How to search the EBSCO databases

Creating a Basic Search on EBSCOhost

Go to EBSCOhost site ( ) and login with your campus code.
Using your specific campus code will enable the district to track statistics to determine usage.

When you log in, you will be offered several search options which include Searchasaurus, which is a graphical interface for elementary level students.


Or Kids Search for elementary and Middle school kids


Or the Student Research Center for middle school and high school students.


The most likely choice staff purposes is the general search.


When you enter the general Search there are 37 different databases listed. Which do you choose?For a general search I suggest SELECT ALL.

If you would like to know what titles are in each of these collections you can click on the "Title list" icon below the description paragraph. Or you can go to the Library Media Services EBSCO support pagewherethere are links set up toopenthe spreadsheets with title listings.

To search within a single database, click the database name listed below. To select more than one database to search, check the boxes next to the databases and click Continue.

    Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts (LISTA) indexes more than 560 core journals, nearly 50 priority journals, and nearly 125 selective journals; plus books, research reports and proceedings. Subject coverage includes librarianship, classification, cataloging, bibliometrics, online information retrieval, information management and more. Coverage in the database extends back as far as the mid-1960s.

    Academic Search Complete is the world's most valuable and comprehensive scholarly, multi-disciplinary full-text database, with more than 8,500 full-text periodicals, including more than 7,300 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 12,500 journals and a total of more than 13,200 publications including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc. The database features PDF content going back as far as 1887, with the majority of full text titles in native (searchable) PDF format. Searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,400 journals.

The MAIN search screen offers many options.


Once you've entered your search terms your results will display. The more specific you can be the more refined your results.The first search for "Invasive Species"produced over 18,000 results. but when i refined it to "asiancarp" and limited date range to 2011 to 2013, the return was down to 217 items.


Clicking on a title, I can get editable text or PDF for most articles. Articles can be printed, exported or emailed. You can get citation information in various formats (APA, MLA, etc) and you can even have the text read to you (click on "Listen") with different accents.
