Regina Kazmir, a dedicated music teacher at Las Palmas Leadership School for Girls, has been named the 2021-2022 Edgewood ISD District Teacher of the Year and the KENS 5 Excel award winner!
A celebration was held in the campus gym to announce the news to Ms. Kazmir. She was welcomed by colleagues and students cheering with noisemakers, and waving decorated signs reading "Thank you for being the BEST teacher!"
Ms. Kazmir has been teaching at Las Palmas for 16 years. She says her time there created lasting bonds with her colleagues, students, and the community.
"Being a part of the Las Palmas community has been special to me - I really do love it here. A lot of students that I've taught have graduated high school and started their own families. I'm even teaching some of their children!"
When asked how she felt at that moment, she began to tear up with joy.
"I feel overwhelmed and shocked. I'm not a traditional classroom teacher and I felt that I wouldn't get [an award] like this. But to know a music teacher can be nominated - that means a lot," said Regina.
