• Kinder Expectations

    Attendance Policy

Students are required to have at least 90% attendance for promotion. Students with more than 17 absences will not be eligible for promotion into first grade and will not participate in the Kindergarten Promotion Ceremony at the end of the year.

Students not in the classroom by 7:50 a.m. will be marked partial day absent and will receive a Stage I notice. After the 5th Stage I students will receive a discipline referral. In addition, students picked up before 3:15 p.m. will be recorded as a partial day absence.

A written excuse is expected for each absence.  Parent notes will be excused up to 5 times.  Warning letters will be issued for 3 unexcused absences and truancy charges filed for 6 or more unexcused absences.

    Home Practice Policy

Roosevelt considers homework to be an important part of the total instructional program. The purpose of our homework in kindergarten is to strengthen learning activities, reinforce skills, and develop good study habits. Home practice for each week will be assigned Monday.  All homework should be completed and returned by Friday morning. It is the student’s responsibility to complete all assignments neatly. Home practice should be supervised and checked by parents.  Incomplete assignments will result in a Stage I notice.

    Reading Log

Reading is a part of the daily homework.  The reading log should be initialed daily to show that the child has read, or been read to for 15-20 minutes each day. Books can be checked out by parents at our school library. We also have books in our class library you may borrow.

    Travel Folders

Travel folders will contain the behavior calendar, reading log, and any other communication from the school.  Parents are expected to check the travel folder every day and initial by the child’s daily conduct.  The child is responsible for returning the folder daily.  Questions or concerns may also be written in the notes section.

Conferences may be held before school, after school, or during my conference time (9:30-10:25). If you have any questions or concerns during the school day you may leave a message through the front office or send an email (Lindsey.saldana@eisd.net).
