• 5th Grade Course Description

    Students are expected to come to school everyday unless they are sick. We prefer that  appointments be made after 9:30 a.m.  Students need a parent excuse or doctor excuse once they return to school. 

    Students recieve a bobcat buck every day they are in school present. They recieve an extra bobcat buck if they are in school the whole week. The bobcat bucks can be used to but items at the bobcat store, recess pass and pizza . Each incentive requires a certain amount of bobcat bucks.

    The students can also get classroom tickets for good behavior, having their reading log done, completing classwork, getting passing grades in tests, reaching their goals in AR reading , Reflex Math, Istation etc.
    Students must always have their binder with them and carry it from class to class with their handout and assignments.
    Students are expected to read everyday at home for 20 minutes or more and write what they read in their reading log.
    Students are to select library books from the library at their AR level and read them. The need to reach their target points at the end of every nine weeks. The students have to take a test over their library book after reading it on the computer.
    Students have at leat 15 to 20 minutes every day during breakfast time to read their AR (library book).

    Students have homework every day studying spelling words, reading, going over their science vocabulary. The students have journals where they keep notes on science,  math and vocabulary. These journals serve as guides for studying at home and before testing.

    Benchmark testing occurs at the end of every nine weeks in the areas of math, reading and science. these grades are average in with the rest of the students grades as a summative grade.

    Semister exams will be given at the end of the first semister (1st and 2nd nine weeks) and the second semister (3rd and 4th nine weeks).
    At 5th grade students will take the following courses during the day
    Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies.
    Students will be tested with the STAAR given by the state in the areas of  Reading, Math and Science

    The students will have the opportunity to pass the reading and math three times and testing in science is a one time testing opportunity.

    During the course of the school year the teachers will cover content area material that will be tested in reading, math and science.  Tutuoring will be offered to the students for reading , math and science on Tuesday and Thursday afterschool from 3:30-4:15. Saturday School  will be offered at least 2 Saturdays per moth to help students prepare for the STAAR test.

    If I can be of any assistance confrence time is at 1:30-32:15 daily call ahead of date and I Stay late up to 7:00 p.m. daily.
