Texas legislators have finally heard the cries of manyeducators from around that state that claimed the STAAR standards establishedyears ago were too demanding. As a result, change for many students is justaround the corner thanks to House Bill 5 (H.B.5). This newly enacted law will sharply decreasedthe number and kind of standardized tests that students will take. For example, high school students were required to successfully complete 15 STAAR exams inorder to graduate. This number has been reduced to only 5 STAAR exams. Is 5 exam are more reasonable number? Arethe lowered expectations a result of testing standards that were placed toohigh? What are your thoughts?
