District Benchmarks this week!!! Please help your children succeed!!!Posted by Rachel Olivarri at 10/22/2012 9:00:00 PM Parents, This week will be a very important one as 5th Grade will be tesing on Tuesday for the District's Science Benchmarks, please ensure students are well rested, and reviewing study guides and journals for their big tests! On Wednesday, they will take their Reading Benchmark test, having to recall all of the skills that we have used in the past 9 weeks of school, to include: Story Structure, Expository Text and Graphic Features, Cause and Effect, Infer, Persuasion, Compare and Contrast, just to name a few. I will be sending Reading passages home with the students to help them prepare. They should be reading a paragraph, stopping to ensure they understand, writing short summarizations alongside the passages, and making side notes to help. We will discuss the questions in class tomorrow and for the next few days. This is a tough concept for kids as most of the passages given will be Informational or Expository, some will not be able to identify with the pasages, but we are workingon strategies to help us visualize and try to make connections with the passages in some way, shape and form. Please practice with your kids and talk to them about the passages they are reading so that they have someone to retell the story to. Should you have any questions, feel free to emal me at rachel.olivarri@eisd.net or call during conference time at 1:40-2:25 p.m. at 210-444-8150. Thanks! Mrs. Olivarri
