Edgewood ISD to open new Auto Tech facility
The public is invited to a ribbon-cuttingceremony for Edgewood ISD’s new Automotive Technology facility.
The ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, May 29, at 9 a.m. on the Edgewood Fine ArtsAcademy campus, 607 S.W. 34th St. The attached map shows the exact location.
A former Edgewood ISD vehiclemaintenance facility has been converted into an Automotive Technology classroomfor students. The area, which will accommodate 20 students per class, alsoincludes a tool crib, two-bay work area, hands-on module area, and large-equipmentstorage area.
Renovations include a new garage door,flooring, walls, and state-of-the-art filtration/carbon monoxide warningsystem.
Next school year, the AutomotiveTechnology program will offer six classes daily – four periods of Energy,Power, and Transportation; and two periods of Automotive Technology. AdvancedAutomotive Technology will be added for the 2014-2015 school year. This year,only Energy, Power, and Transportation was offered.
By the end of the sequence, studentswill be able to test, diagnose, service, and repair braking, steering andsuspension systems; cooling and lubrication systems; electrical and electronicsystems; air-conditioning and heating systems; and air, fuel, ignition,emissions, and drive systems.
