Turnovers and penalties lead to Minutemen defeat

By Manuel A. Carranza

Whent he Memorial Minutemen took the field for the second half against Harlandale, they had momentum on their side.  Down 14-9, and set to receive the second half kick-off, a costly turnover on the second play of the half led to a Harlandale touchdown.  The Minutemen rallied throughout the game.  But in the end, fell short losing 42-23 at Frank Mata Stadium.

Down twelve points, the Minutemen drove the ball down the field and Raul Rangel scored on a ten yard run to cut the Indian lead to five(21-16).  On Harlandale's next possession, two costly penalties against Memorial kept their drive alive.  The Indians were able to score again and keep Memorial's offense off the field during the second half.   Ivan DeAnda's 57 yard touchdown pass from Alfred Ramos were the Minutemen's final points of the night.  Memorial scored in the first half on a Harlandale safety and a Richard Casarez 15 yard touchdown pass.

With the loss (3-4, 1-3 in district play) and three games left, Memorial still has an outside chance of making the playoffs. They travel this week to take on Uvalde.  Kick-off is at 7pm.  The next home game will be on Friday, November 1st when they host Medina Valley in their final home game.  Kick-off at Mata Stadium is at 7pm.
