Hello Future Thespians,
My name is Dianne Weston. I will be teaching theatre for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. The sixth grade class is an introduction to theatre. We will be studying theatre history, puppetry, scene design, makeup, costume, and finish with acting the second semester.
The seventh and eighth grades will be emphasize acting techniques. This year we are very fortunate to be working in a partnership with the San Antonio Police Department in creating plays to be presented at Brentwood and possibly Gus Garcia and Wrenn. These plays are written and acted out by the 7th and 8th graders. The first performance will be during Red Ribbon Week dealing with domestic violence as October is domestic violence month and underage drinking toemphasize Red Ribbon Week. The second play will be druing the month of February which is teen dating voilance month. Act One will be demonsstrating what not to do. During the intermission a San Antonio Police Detective will talk about what is the wrong thing to do and then talk about what is the correct way to handle the situation. Act Two will then demonstrate the correct way to handle the situation and ways to seek help.
We do not want to forget the UIL One Act Play. We will need performers, light and sound techs, costume, makeup, props. Everyone is welcome to work on the play. Auditions for the characters will be held the first part October. We will have a short meeting in September to talk about the play, and the expectations. The One Act Play is to be performed Jan. 14, 2015 at the Fine Arts Academy.
I am looking forward to working with each and every one of you. For some of you it will be a different experience in which I hope you gain an appreciation for theatre, get excited and involved with BMS theatre and community theatre.
