Career and Technical Education in Edgewood ISD CLICK HERE FOR BREAKING NEWS CULINARY ARTS STUDENTS TO VISIT THE BIG APPLE! The Culinary Art students, from Memorial High School, went head to head with five other school districts to create an impressive paella at the 2013 Paella Challenge. The Paella Challenge was hosted by Chef Johnny Hernandez and the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Memorial took the lead with Jay High School winning 2nd place and Sam Houston High School bringing in 3rd place. The students win a trip to visit the Culinary Arts Institute located in New York City. FINE ARTS ACADEMY STUDENTS ARE ROCKING Say Si hosted the Scholastic Awards Cermony on January 25th for the winners of the San Antonio Regional competition. A Fine Arts Graphic Design student won the Scholastic Silver Key for his work in, "The Voice." Animation students were asked to design medals for the Fiesta Medals:The Next Generation. UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures is showcasing the students creations until July 8th, 2013. Students were treated to a celebration with some of the city's finest influental people. Students were amazed at the display of their work and enjoyed the endless tables of gormet foods. KENNEDY HIGH SCHOOL Criminal Justice students continue to surpass all expectations. Kennedy's Criminal Justice program is one of the largest in San Antonio. Police Explorers competed in Texas Public Service Association's Regional Competition, held at Southside ISD, taking 1st place in the 'Prepared Opening Statement' competition, 2nd place in the 'Criminal Incident Scenario' competition, and 3rd place in the 'Brain Bowl' competition. The criminal justice students didn't stop there, they managed to win 1st place in the state competition for Criminal Intent. One student scored a 53.5 out of a possible 55 points in the 'Opening Statement' competition. Criminal Justice students also attended the YMCA's Youth & Government competition with both teams advancing to the state competition. Manufacturing students accompanied their teacher to Floresville High School where students took the two of the American Welding System exams. Students had to weld medal together and perform a number of tasks as they were being graded following the AWS rubric. Welders must receive eight certifications in order to be recognized by AWS. Five Kennedy students were able to pass two of those certifications and will be presented with their industry certification. Purpose of CTE CTE has a long and rich history in the United States. Today’s CTE has evolved from a limited number of vocational programs available at the turn of the 20th century into a broad system that encompasses a variety of challenging fields in diverse subject areas which are constantly evolving due to the changing global economy.
