Degrees and Certifications:
Dr. Mary J. Miller-Baker
The beginning of a child’s formal education is a fascinating time. Children at this age are eager to learn and open to whatever opportunities are put before them. We in Edgewood ISD believe that the early education is critical to future success. We are proud to offer a variety of educational programs taught by certified teachers for students as young as three years old. In our district the Head Start program is available at three early childhood centers for children who are three and four years of age. In addition to Head Start, Edgewood offers full time prekindergarten for District four year olds. This program is offered at seven campuses located throughout the school district. All of these programs provide services for students with special needs as well as bilingual instruction.
Ten elementary schools are located in Edgewood. All of the campuses provide a complete instructional program for students through fifth grade. Dual language services are available at each site. These services are provided for Spanish speaking students as well students who would like to become fluent in Spanish. Services in dyslexia, special education, and gifted and talented are also provided at all schools. All elementary students receive physical education, art and music instruction weekly.
In addition to a robust academic program, students may participate in after school programs and engage in activities including robotics, fine arts, chess, sports, and tutoring. Students are encouraged to become involved in a wide array of activities to prepare them for the future. Parents are encouraged to be active parts of their children’s education and are asked to become campus volunteers.
A variety of student support services are available from the counselor and campus social workers. This includes guidance lessons, guest speakers, career and college connections, and small group and individual counseling services. Teachers are encouraged to make learning relevant to our students. Technology is embedded in the classrooms and in computer labs for our 21st century learners. Field trips are encouraged for students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
We are proud of the education that students receive at our early childhood centers and elementary campuses and look forward to educating the next generation of Rockets and Minutemen!
Please feel free to contact your campus principal or me, if you have questions about our programs or our schools.
