Dr. Emilio P. Castro
Dr. Emilio P. Castro has served in public education for 21 years. The first in his family of 11 to go to college, Dr. Castro's education career began as a bilingual teacher in Dallas ISD. He moved up the ranks of Dallas quickly, after being selected as the first Hispanic and youngest Teacher of the Year in Dallas ISD. He was promoted to an Assistant Principal at a high school, then again to Principal of a "low performing" elementary school. Under Castro's leadership, this campus went to a recognized status in only one year. This continued success moved Castro up the ranks of Dallas ISD. As a middle school Principal, Castro moved to a campus of over 2200 student with that campus being recognized in just one year. He was then asked to lead a large high school with that campus becoming the top performing comprehensive school in Dallas. Afterward, Castro served as an area Superintendent responsible for 39 schools (30 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, and 4 high schools). During that time, nine schools were "low performing" and after one year eight were no longer considered "low performing". Due to his success in Dallas ISD, Castro became the Superintendent in the Coastal Bend of Texas.
In his first year as Kingsville ISD Superintendent, his team passed the largest bond in the history of Kleberg County to transform the flagship high school into one for 21st century learning. The 67 community meetings united the city of Kingsville as well as bringing together parents, businesses, faith based organizations, higher education and elected officials together with a collective effort for a collective impact.
He brings a unique blend of experiences and successes at all levels, derived from relationships through collaborative leadership. It's his systems of collaboration that has been the thread of success and sustainability. He is a leader that believes in investing in people, investing in working together will create the excellence in education for all students.
