I am so glad you have chosen to visit my personal “Meet the Teacher” page. In order for most of us to feel comfortable, we need to get to know one another. Please allow me the opportunity to briefly share with you, my experiences and education. I grew up in the Texas Hill Country and San Antonio area. I have lived on the same family ranch almost my entire life, except a year or two of “city life.” I am married and have 3 children who attend public school. After I graduated high school, I chose to enter into a career as a legal assistant (paralegal) while attending college classes. After fifteen (15) years as a senior litigation specialist and contract paralegal, I had the opportunity and desire to complete my bachelors’ degree at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). In 2006, I received my degree in Political Science. It was during my last few years in college I became a student supplemental instruction leader at UTSA. I assisted in college courses with a historically high drop, failure, or withdrawal rates. I spend a year assisting in Classical Mythology and a year assisting in American Politics, under the guidance of my mentor. It was during this chapter in my life where I cultivated a desire to teach. I am very passionate about history, political science, the humanities in general, and of course teaching. It was at UTSA, I began my search for employment as a public school teacher. I was, and continue to be, certified in Early Childhood to 4th grade (EC-4) as a Generalist; 4th – 8th Generalist; and 8th – 12th Social Studies Composite. Shortly after graduation, I began my career with Edgewood ISD, at Kennedy High School for a semester. I was then hired to teach at Gus Garcia Middle School as an 8th grade Social Studies teacher. During my four and a half years at Gus Garcia, I was the 8th grade Lead Teacher, Social Studies Department Chair, and Chair for the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) committee. This year, I have also taken on the wonderful experience as Senior Class sponsor. We work vary hard to raise money for Senior Prom and our Senior trip. Through the constant support of our administrators, students, staff, and community, we look forward to meeting our goal over the next few months! I believe it is important to attend as many trainings as possible to bring not only my personal life experience into the class, but the most up to date research, activities and information to my students. I firmly believe that my students deserve the best. I have very high expectations for all my students. I know that we can accomplish so much, as a team, and reach amazing heights together! I look forward to seeing my students every day. I also appreciate the opporutnities to meet and work with the parents/guardians of each student. Together, we can provide an unlimited future for our kids. So, Let's Make History!!! |
