English IV--
HS English Language Arts and Reading

Course Description & Expectations: Students use a flexible range of metacognitive skills in both assigned and independent reading to understand an author's message. Students will continue to apply earlier standards with greater depths in increasingly more complex texts as they become self-directed, critical readers. The student is expected to: (A) reflect on understanding to monitor comprehension such as asking questions, summarizing and synthesizing, making connections, creating sensory images; and (B) make inductive and deductive complex inferences about texts and use textual evidence to support understanding.

Expectations: The student is expected to come on time every day. The student is expected to come prepared mentally, physically, psychologically, emotionally and spiritually. In other words, to apply his or her ultimate best. Always bring a notebook and writing materials. Textbooks and reading materials will be provided. The student is expected to follow all district, school, and classroom rules and policies. Above all else, the student is to show a genuine concern for the welfare and safety of fellow classmates and teachers.
