Name: Name:Andy Salazar Aguirre Profile Picture

Education: I am a graduate of Douglas MacArthur High School here in San Antonio, TX. I received my undergraduate degree in Accounting with a minor in Business Administration as well as both of my Masters (Master of Business Administration and Master of Communication Arts) from St. Mary's University.

Teaching Credentials: I have the following qualifications.
  • Special Education Teacher (EC-12)-Highly Qualified in Math
  • Generalist EC-4

Athletic Achievements: I am a former college volleyball and softball player for St. Mary's University. I was the Varsity Assistant/Freshman Coach for Memorial for 2 years.  In total (high school, club and college), I have coached volleyball for 11 years.  I enjoy staying active and participating in various sports competitions (volleyball, duathlons and triathlons).  I truly believe that being involved in sports can teach you lessons that you can't always learn in books.

What I love about my job: My kids. I have a unique situation in that I am the only math teacher that they will see throughout their high school years. I get the chance to really get to know them, build relationships, watch them grow and mature and hopefully become more confident in themselves through the years. There are days that they make me laugh, cry and shake my head in disbelief at the things they say, but I claim them 100%. If they leave my room knowing that someone believed in them and cared about them enough to push them and challenge them, then I know I did my job.

3 things I want my students to know before they leave me:
  • Be respectful not only of yourself but also of others.
  • Don't let anyone ever take advantage of you.
  • You can do anything with your life...you just have to BELIEVE.
