The John F. Kennedy High School Mighty Rocket Band has over 120 members.  The band program offers its students an enriching music education experience and teaches its students performance, responsibility, leadership, and team work.  The Mighty Rocket Marching Band begins preparing in the summer for its upcoming UIL marching contest show.  The marching band performs at all Kennedy varsity football games, numerous contests in October, and pep rallies.

In November, the band will begin its concert season with preparation for its Winter Concert and the upcoming UIL Concert & Sightreading contest, which is held in April.  The band currently divides into two concert bands through an audition process, creating the Symphonic Band and the Concert Band.  Individual students are strongly encouraged to participate in the All-Region tryouts held in December, which they can qualify for All-Area and eventually All-State.  Students are also strongly encouraged to participate in the Solo & Ensemble contest held in February.

After concert season is completed in April, the Mighty Rocket Band participates in numerous Fiesta events including the Battle of Flowers Band Festival, the Battle of Flowers Parade, and the Fiesta Flambeau parade.

The Band Program includes students who have had taken band at their middle school, but also encourages any student to join, regardless of experience.  Students with limited or no experience may be placed in the beginning band where they can learn an instrument to prepare them to join the Mighty Rocket Band in the future.

The Band also has a color guard (band flags).  All students are welcome to join, as this is not a class offered in the middle school level.  All color guard members begin in the high school level.  The color guard performs with the band during all of the marching season and the Fiesta events.
