Hello! My name is Mr. Robert Martinez. I'm the Senior English and Head Senior Class Sponsor here at John F. Kennedy High school.
As you might have guessed I'm an alumnus from the University of Texas at Austin (hook'em horns!) and I'm also a proud veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces. I have been teaching English professionally for eighteen years and have enjoyed being able to teach young people an appreciation of the written word.
I have been a teacher here at Kennedy for a number of years now and I have had the great privilege to be a head sponsor for the Senior Class on several occasions. It makes me very happy to form a closer bond with my students and get to know them on a one-on-one level.
My regular English and AP English courses provide students a challenging, but rewarding, look at all genres of literature. In my classroom, they are exposed to classics such as The Inferno from Dante'sThe Divine Comedy to contemporary works such as Brave New World by Huxley.
Besides novels, my students are also exposed to the great poetic works of Shakespeare and are taught to interpret his poetry so that they can better understand its meaning in this modern time.
For those who need further instruction or perhaps need personal instruction time as to better understand the subject matter, I am always available for tutoring. For those students who are making the effort to learn as much as they can from my class, I have always been willing to lend a hand and explain in a more simplistic way so that those students understand the concepts being taught.
