On Target Professional Learning -Summer 2013
What do you mean by Targeted Professional Learning?
Targeted Professional Learning is training that is specific to the needs that we are have in the district. The process for determining professional learning is data driven. We identify what our greatest needs are by examining a multitude of data. This year we have prioritized TEKS related training for our teachers. The professional learning selections in the course catalog are targeted to those priorities. That is why six out of the twelve hours you are expected to exchange be deemed a*requiredtraining. It’s important to stay on target.
What is an Exchange Day? EISD will require two Exchange Days for teachers. How this works is simple. All teachers must attend a minimum of 12 hours of unpaid Targeted Professional Learning. Six of the 12 hours must be deemed*requiredby the district in order for the total 12 hours to qualify.Your campus retreat will also count for six hours but does not count as a *required training. When you complete your 12 hours of Targeted Professional Learning you will have November 25thand 26thoff to kick off your Thanksgiving Holiday.
What if I am a Non- Core Area Teacher? Non – core area teachers are expected to attend professional learning sessions that are specific to their area of teaching. District Career and Technical, Athletics and Fine Arts Departments are developing plans with each of their teachers to ensure their 12 hours are targeted to the needs our district programs. You are expected to follow the process in Eduphoria for submitting for external credit. Please note that Bilingual/ELL, Special Education Teachers and Instructional Technology Facilitators are expected to take core area training.
Moving to World Class Data driven decisions and being targeted about our training will move us toward our goal of being “World Class”. Knowledge of the new Math TEKS, End of Course (EOC), Special Education, Bilingual/ESL populations and Instructional Technology are the areas that have been targeted for Summer 2013.
What if I attend summer training but it isn’t “Targeted”? Professional learning is encouraged for everyone. The benefits are countless. However, only Targeted Professional Learning Sessions as designated by the district will count for your exchange days. Remember six of your twelve hours must be deemed a * required training in order for the entire 12 hours to qualify for exchanging. If you take other sessions but no your *required training then you will be prohibited from exchanging any days.
How will the district know if I have attended Targeted Professional Learning Sessions? Targeted Courses will be flagged in Eduphoria Workshop for the district to use for this purpose. That is why it is important that all participants register and sign in when they attend their sessions. If you have attended a course outside of the district follow the procedures for Submitting for External Credit on the Staff Development Website. (exceptions may be made in some cases)
What if I do not complete my 12 Hours of Targeted Professional Learning for my Exchange Days?
Teachers that do not complete their 12 hours will have two choices: attend training on November 25th and 26th or use your personal or state leave days.
How do I get started? Preview the schedule on the EISD Staff Development Website or the listing of courses on Eduphoria Workshop for approved Targeted Learning Sessions. Don’t wait!
