Choir is open to students in 3rd-5th grade.  They learn vocal techniques,  music reading, and  performance skills.  They have been featured on FOX NEWS for a city-wide Christmas performance and took second place in the All-District Choir Concert last spring.  We have two All-District Choir concerts:  One in the fall and one  in the spring. We also hope to return to San Antonio International Airport. We have practice after school on  Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. with extra concert rehearsals as needed.
Piano/keyboard is also open to students in grades 3-5.  Students learn sight reading skills, music composition and ensemble (group) playing. They learn at their own pace in our VH1 keyboard lab with Casio Keyboards.  Space is limited to 16 students and they meet on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
This year we will be offering recorder to 3rd-5th grade students who are interested in playing an instrument from the Woodwind Family. 3rd graders who sign up will get a "preview of what recorder playing will be like in 4th and 5th grade. All 4th grade students in Edgewood received a recorder last year.   5th grade students will get an opportunity to play their recorders in class as well as sign up for this after-school class and advance their playing skills.  Students learn music reading, breathing and performance techniques, and playing simple melodies.   This class will meet on Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
This class also teaches sight reading and instrument playing skills .  Students will also learn how to use a guitar pick and make chords to accompany themselves while singing a song. We have school guitars that students may take home to practice between our class meetings.  The school has only 13 guitars, but students who bring their own guitars are welcome to join. We can have a total of 18 students in our class.  This class meets on Friday from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
How do you join?  Get a permission slip from the music room.  Fill it out and have your parents sign it.  Bring it back to the music room!!
