Course Description for
B. Cobbley
5th Grade, Room 231
Conference period:  11:50 - 12:35
This year I am teaching just Math and Science to two different classes, my homeroom and Ms. N'Diaye's homeroom. We switch daily about 10:30 am.
Science instruction is divided into three main subject areas and times:
  • Physical Science, first nine-weeks
  • Earth Science, second nine-weeks
  • Life Science, third nine-weeks
The fourth nine-weeks includes a review of the content and the completion of a mandatory Science Fair project.
Math instruction involves six main subject areas:
  • Place value, the four operations, decimals, and fractions
  • Patterns and relationships
  • Geometry
  • Measurement
  • Probability and graphs, charts, and tables
  • Problem Solving
In following AVID suggestions, all students in 5th grade are required to keep a binder with dividers. One of the dividers is dedicated to homework, which is provided daily, Monday through Thursdays. The other tabs are used to take and keep notes in the different subjects areas, and those notes can be reviewed daily as part of good homework procedures.
