In Social Studies right now, we are studying how technology affects the jobs in our community. We are discussing how things have changed over time, due to the technology that we now see in our daily lives.
This ties in with our Science lessons, on the plant life cycle. We are learning how plants grow, are harvested and how they make it to our local stores. Through both of these lessons, we can see how we have our basic needs met, through technology with an understanding of both the social and life sciences.
In Language Arts, we are beginning to learn to express our own ideas and opinions through our writing. The students are responding to stories from class, voicing their opinions on their favorite parts of the book.
While reading together in small groups, the students are picking up more and more sight words. These are words that can not be decoded through typical methods, and need to be learned by spelling alone.
Right now the class is focusing on applying numbers to their daily lives in Math. We are graphing our favorite things, the types of transportation we use, and the foods we eat, to see how we use math on a day to day basis.
