My role as a reading interventionist

During the school day, I work with small groups of first and second grade students who are not meeting expectations in developing into independent readers.

Therefore, I provide extra practice in areas of phonemic awareness and graphophonemic knowledge. Once these foundation skills have solidified, I focus on filling students toolbelts with reading strategies they can use when they read independently. Cognitive strategies, strategies to figure out unfamiliar words, and word work are a few of the domains I teach young readers.
