This year will be my 12th year working in the Edgewood Independent School District. My experience includes one year as a 2nd grade teacher, five years as a 3rd grade Dual Language Teacher, one year as an Interventionist, and this will be my fifth year as a member of the Academic Leadership Team at Las Palmas Elementary.
My family includes my husband, Brian, and our son Esai. My husband is a high school Chemistry teacher and we both value education. The field of education is both challenging and rewarding.
I am a UTSA graduate and earned a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies and another B.A. in Mexican American Studies in 2003. UTSA is also where I received my M.A. in Education in Bicultural-Bilingual Studies in 2008.
This summer, I became a certified Abydos writing trainer and participated as one of the EISD trainers for the Abydos/W.I.S.E. 3-Week Writing Institute. The Abydos program, formerly the New Jersey Writing Project, has a rigorous certification program. To serve as a trainer was a wonderful learning experience. Our district trainers hope to continue the learning throughout the school year!
At Las Palmas Elementary, we will continue to offer our students the Dual Language program where students can receive a rigorous education while acquiring 2 languages and 2 cultures!
Las Palmas Elementary has many enriching activities and events planned for our students. We can't wait to share all the successes of a rewarding 2015-2016 academic school year!
