Welcome to the Second Part of Our School Year!!!! I am looking forward to a terrific 2013!!! During the month of January we will be taking several different assessments. Three of the assessments are reading: (1) TPRI (2) Fountas and Pinnell (3) District Reading Benchmarks. It is very important that all students practice their reading every night. The TPRI test (second one for the year) will show what progress they have made during the first part of the year. Your child should be reading 30 words or more per minute at this halfway point. So, that by the end of the year they will be reading 60 words or more per minute. The final TPRI test will help to promote your child to 2nd grade. The Fountas and Pinnell test will help me to put your child on his/her correct reading level and to show how they have progressed. This testing and other factors help to determine which student can participate in the district flex days. The District Reading Benchmark also helps me to see how your child's comprehension has improved from the beginning of the year. Please help your students reach this goal and I will keep you posted on your child's progress throughout the year. Please make sure that your child: *comes to school ready to learn *does their homework and turns it in every Friday *practices his/her sight words everyday (in yellow folders) *practices the stories in the yellow reading folders |
