We are working on phonics the long o sounds.  Words spelled with oa as in boat or goat, and words spelled with ow as in bow and slow.  We are also learning contractions with the word have, ex: could've, would've, should've.

 

In reading comprehension we are working on the concept of coming to a conclusion.  Ask your child to sing the song we learned about conclusions.  As we work on a conclusion we are using inferencing to get to the conclusion.  Inferencing and conclusion go hand in hand.

 

1st grade Math: Februay 11-15

 

We are working on adding numbers up to 99.  We are studying fact families and how the numbers work together.  We look for patterns in our solutions to word problems.  We are working hard to find the missing number by playing math detective.  Your child should be doing some reflex math every night.  The link to reflex math is on the helpful links page.
