Food Items Brought In from Outside Food Sources / Home
The Child Nutrition Services Department is unable to store, prepare or heat food items brought in from outside sources due to all safety, sanitation and Health Department concerns.
Food Made Available to Students
All foods made available to students must be store bought and compliant with the Texas Public School Nutrition Policy and Local Wellness Policy. Please remember that it is against state policy to bring in outside food for anyone other than your child.
Edgewood ISD operates under the guidelines of the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA). The District uses an approved "Offer vs. Serve" system allowing students to pick and choose their own food choices.
If a student is unable to select their own food choices or specific food items must be omitted from a child's diet due to a medical condition it must be accompained in a signed statement from a recognized medical authority. A recognized medical authority may include physicians, physician assistants or nurse practitioners.
- An identification of the medical or other special dietary condition which restricts the child's diet;
- The food or foods to be omitted from the child's diet; and
- The food or choices of foods to be substituted
