TRUANCY
The Edgewood ISD Police Department works closely with administrators to help prevent truancy in our schools. The mission of the EISD Police Department in this process is not to pursue criminal charges in every case; however, in certain instances this may be unavoidable.

· Texas Education Code Sec. 25.093 states that charges can be filed against a parent if the parent, with criminal negligence, fails to require the child to attend school as required by law, and the child has absences for the amount of time specified under Sec. 25.094.

· Texas Education Code 25.094 states that an individual commits an offense if the individual (1) is 12 years of age or older and younger than 18 years of age if that individual fails to attend school on 10 or more days or parts of days within a six month period in the same school year. Texas Education Code Sec. 25.0951, states a school district shall file a complaint against the student or the student’s parent or both for an offense under this section.

· Texas Education Code 25.094 also states that an individual commits an offense if the individual fails to attend school on three or more days or parts of days within a four week period. Texas Education Code Sec. 25.0951 states that a school district may file a complaint against the student or the student’s parent or both for an offense under this section.
