Hello, my name is Ms. Hernandez and I am very excited to be your child's Art Teacher. I would like to begin by telling you a little bit about myself. I am a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin. GO LONGHORNS! I graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Visual Art Studies (Art Education) and a Bachelors of Art in Studio Art, with a concentration in Printmaking, and I am certified to teach K-12 Art. It is my goal that my students walk away with knowledge learned in class and apply it to not only their art, but to their futures.
As an art teacher, I believe that Art Education is an essential component in the development of every student. All children should gain an understanding of what art is. The study of art includes the practice of art making, the history of art, aesthetics, and hopefully a development of art appreciation. Art making is a visceral experience and an innate means of creative expression and communication. I am sure that throughout this school year your child and I will be on a creative adventure, full of learning and inventing.
Regardless, if my students choose to become an artist or not, I want them all to be creative and knowledgeable in the subject. I would like to encourage students’ growth of character, morality, and civic responsibility, as well as have students strive to become contributing members of their community and society at large.
