Literacy Coach Lessons and ActivitiesPosted by Beatriz Lozano at 5/8/2013 3:00:00 PMFor Literacy Coaches across Edgewood...My class is being used as a Lab Classroom using the Comprehension Toolkit...My students love the post-its of course but I am having trouble getting them to jot down meaningful thoughts and questions except for those 5 students that always seem to blow you away...What is happening in your classrooms that is working or are you having the same problems?

S-Study text features, C-Circle underlined words and text features, O-Ok to read the questions before reading the passage, R-Read the Passage, E-Evidence-where did you find your answerI have used this Reading Strategy in my classroom for the two years I have been a 3rd grade teacher. I feel as though it gives those students who need it a guide on how to go through a passage successfully. Have you used it? If so, has it helped? If not, do you have another way to go about it?
Other ways to teach Inferencing...Posted by Beatriz Lozano at 12/12/2012 8:00:00 AMI have discovered recently how difficult it is for some students to make a reasonable inference. After lots of practice and activities there are still students making inferences that have NO connection to the stories. Could it be lack of schema(background knowledge)?
