 | Joseph M. Guerra, President

Joseph M. Guerra is a lifelong resident and has been involved in community development for most of his life. In his professional career, Guerra work in respiratory therapy for pre-mature infants. Now retired, Guerra works with digital photography. “Education is the only way that children can move forward. I feel strongly that we must do everything necessary to help them reach their goals,” Guerra said. “On the Board, I hope to keep improving the district and the opportunities for our kids.” Guerra will serve until 2014. |

 | Tina Morales, Vice President
Term Expires: November 2016 Place: 5
Tina Morales was elected in 2008. She retired in 1994 and is currently employed as a Home Support Liaison. Morales’ goals are to improve the educational system for students and staff. She supports an increase in parental and community involvement. She previously served on the board from 1990 - 1998. She will serve on the board until 2016. |

 | Johnny Perez, Secretary
Term Expires: November 2016 Place: 4
Johnny Perez has been a member of the school board since 2000. Perez is retired from U.S. Postal Service and is a U.S. Navy Veteran. He supports teacher retention, business/housing opportunities and the boys and girls athletic programs. Perez will serve until 2016.

Sonia Elizondo joined the Edgewood ISD School Board in November 2010. She enjoys working with children and is one of the co founders of the Texas Toros. Elizondo is looking forward to a progressive year on the Board. She is a graduate of Memorial HS and will serve until 2014. |

Mary Lou Mendoza was elected in 2002. She has served as a community activist for the Edgewood community and the City of San Antonio. She is currently working as a community researcher for a non-profit entity. She supports the living wage and improving community outreach. Mendoza was reelected in 2010 and will serve the school board until 2014. |

 | Velma Peña, Trustee

Velma Peña has been married 31 years to Tony Peña. Velma and Tony have 4 children and 6 grandchildren. She is a member of the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC); she also represents the Edgewood area as a member of the SAWS BexarMet Integration Advisory Committee. Velma has continued to be very dedicated to her community. She is an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Texas Congress of PTA and has received the Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers Extended Service Award. She believes that all our children should be given the same opportunities for a better education to succeed in life. Mrs. Peña will serve on the School Board until 2016.
