Dia de los MuertosPosted by Richard Minks at 8/22/2016
The first schoolwide art themed holiday will be Dia de los Muertos. Day of the Dead is a two day festival that takes place every November 1 and 2. Dia de los Muertos celebrates the lives of the deceased with food, drink, and personal objects that the dead enjoyed in life. The holiday recognizes death as a natural part of the human experience. On Dia de los Muertos, the dead are welcomed back to the community, awakened from their sleep to share celebrations with their loved ones. We make ofrendas, or altars on which to place the offerings to the deceased. We create skulls, flowers, papel picado, skeletons and candles in various grade levels. Come see our altars displayed in the school hallway as well as at the Edgewood Academy Art Gallery. We hope you enjoy the holiday with us!
