Below you will find examples of student work that connect to the lessons on my Instructional Resources page. Several stories were used from the Write-In Reader as well as passages and question stems from Margaret Kilgo. Thinking Maps were also used, which is a District Initiative here in Edgewood Independent School District.
Here at Las Palmas Elementary, we are fortunate to work with Fisher Reyna High Tech Test Prep. This is a valuable resource that we use to help students summarize any text they read. The students also learn how to separate texts into different genres. Attached you will find an example of a summary about a narrative text with a problem. This story was also from the Write-In Reader by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
This year, students in Texas will participate in statewide testing called the STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness). We prepare our students through in-depth questioning associated with high interest reading passages. Attached you find an example of how students use thinking marks to keep track of their reading.
